A Note From Ed

Greetings!

It has been a busy summer so far and I have a ton of things to talk about but I wanted to get a note off and discuss a few things that are really disturbing me this 'election fever' season.

There is so much rhetoric and smoke screening that it is almost impossible to actually see what any candidate's position is on any given issue. Special interest groups swamp TV with ads so blatantly full of misrepresentations that you want to vomit after seeing the same ad 14 times in one short evening.

My point is... Please, take the time to really study every candidate's background, track record, support organizations and specific issue stands.

In today's world it is dangerous for a ministry or church to say much that is political or not politically correct, without jeopardizing  its non-profit status.

Muslim groups are filing lawsuits and charges against churches that speak out about the false god of Islam and  churches and ministries are spending  dollars meant for the ministry to defend themselves against activist gay and lesbian groups who do not like them speaking about Biblical references to such lifestyles.

The day is coming soon when groups like Saints Alive will no longer be able to speak out about Mormonism, Islam, Freemasonry and other groups without being sued, arrested or hassled. The Non-Profit status of so many apologetics ministries is in serious jeopardy.

Please take some time and go to some of the web sites I have posted this month. We have been uploading a lot of materials and teachings for you to download and use as you study out these subjects. Places like YouTube and GodTube are great sites to reach the 'masses.' At very little cost. And speaking about costs...

Learning to be Muslims in Public School

Apparently, a public school principal in Texas arranged for an instruction in Islamic relations by an organization whose leaders have been linked to terror groups by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.

This school's mandatory event took place despite the principal being notified by the School District Superintendent to not have the students participate in this event.  School District students at Friendswood Junior High School in Houston, TX were required to attend an assembly scheduled by the principal, where two women from the Houston Division of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) provided indoctrination.  The assembly went beyond an objective presentation, as the students were told that "Adam, Noah and Jesus are prophets, [and also] announced 'there is one god, his name is Allah.'"  Further, the students were also taught the five pillars of Islam with prayer instruction, all without parental consent.

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. -- Some workers at a local plant will no longer to be able to take their Labor Day holiday because of religious reasons.

Workers at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day but will instead be granted the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.

According to a news release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, a new five-year contract at the plant included the change to accommodate Muslim workers at the plant.

Former employee and Shelbyville resident Anthony Proctor said he thinks what's happening is wrong.

He said he helped build a special Muslim prayer room that's located inside the plant and that no other Tyson facility has been that accommodating for any other religion.

"If we want to go pray, we don't have one for Christians," he said.

The "Heresy" of Christian Salvation?

What Think Ye of Salvation By Grace?

I wonder how many of us are aware of one of the great religious phenomenon of the ages, one that is now sweeping through Protestant Christianity, as only one other thing has ever done in the whole Christian Era?

We are silent witnesses of an almost worldwide religious craze that had its birth in the minds of a few great religious reformers nearly five hundred years ago and which is now receiving a new birth of freedom and influence.

May I divorce myself for the moment from the mainstream of present-day evangelical Christianity, swim upstream as it were, and give forth some rather plain and pointed expressions on this supposedly marvelous means of being saved with very slight effort?

But before zeroing in on this religious mania that has now taken possession of millions of devout but deluded people, and as a means of keeping all things in perspective, let me first identify the original heresy that did more than anything else to destroy primitive Christianity.

This first and chief heresy of a now fallen and decadent Christianity-and truly it is the father of all heresies-swept through all of the congregations of true believers in the early centuries of the Christian era; it pertained then and pertains now to the nature and kind of being that God is.

It was the doctrine, adapted from Gnosticism, that changed Christianity from the religion in which men worshipped a personal God, in whose image man is made (Gen. 1:26-27; James 3:9; Mosiah 7:27; Ether 3:15; D&C 20:18; Moses 6:8-9), into a religion in which men worshipped a spirit essence called the Trinity. This new God, no longer a personal Father, no longer a personage of tabernacle (D&C 130:22), became an incomprehensible three-in-one spirit essence that filled the immensity of space.

The adoption of this false doctrine about God effectively destroyed true worship among men and ushered in the age of universal apostasy. The dominant church then became a political power, ruling autocratically over kingdoms and empires as well as over her own congregations (1 Nephi. 13, 14). Salvation, as was then supposed, was administered by the church through the seven sacraments.

Nearly a millennium and a half later, during the sixteenth century, as the Reformation grew out of the Renaissance, as a means of breaking the hold of the dominant church, the great Christian reformers lit a new doctrinal fire. That fire, burning wildly over the dry and arid prairies of religious autocracy, is what really prepared the way for the restoration of the gospel in modern times.

It was nonetheless the doctrinal fire-the burning, flaming, heretical fire-that became the second greatest heresy of Christendom, because it effectively destroyed the efficacy and power of the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ by whom salvation comes.

The first great heresy, sweeping like a prairie fire through the struggling branches of a newborn Christianity, destroyed the worship of the true God. And the second, a heresy originating in the same courts of darkness, destroyed the very atonement of God's only Son.

This second heresy-and it is the prevailing delusion and mania that prevails to this day in the great evangelical body of Protestantism-is the doctrine that we are justified by faith alone without the works of the law. It is the doctrine that we are saved by grace alone, without works. It is the doctrine that we may be born again simply by confessing the Lord Jesus with our lips while we continue to live in our sins.

We have all listened to sermons by the great revivalists and self-appointed prophets of the various radio and television ministries. Whatever the subjects of their sermons may be, they invariably end with an invitation and a plea for people to come forward and confess the Lord and receive the cleansing power of his blood. Television broadcasts of these sermons always show arenas or coliseums or stadiums filled with people, scores and hundreds and thousands of whom go forward to make their confessions, to become born-again Christians, to be saved with all they suppose this includes.

While driving along a highway in my car I was listening to the radio sermon of one of these evangelists who was preaching of salvation by grace alone. He said all anyone had to do to be saved was to believe in Christ and perform an affirmative act of confession. Among other things he said: "If you are traveling in a car, simply reach forth your hand and touch your car radio, thus making contact with me, and then say, Lord Jesus, I believe, and you will be saved."

Interwoven with this concept is the doctrine that the elect of God are predestined to be saved regardless of any act on their part, which, as I suppose, is part of the reason a Lutheran minister once said to me: "I was saved two thousand years ago, and there is nothing I can do about it one way or the other now," meaning that he thought he was saved by the blood of Christ shed on Calvary, without any works or effort on his part.

Watch out for the "Hate Crime" Laws

"Hate crimes" laws were defeated in Congress just a few months ago. Just a few weeks ago, Frank Wright of the National Religious Broadcasters Association warned, "We must be one in Christ to face the days ahead" because "hate crimes" laws would create untold new liability for Christians.

Now a major Christian ministry has confirmed that such "hate crimes" laws already are setting limits on what it can broadcast.

The issue is "hate crimes" laws in Canada, and they are affecting U.S. Christian ministries that broadcast into that nation.

WND reported just a week ago on a Christian ministry based in Canada that essentially was ordered shut down under that nation's "hate crimes" laws which prevent Christians from expressing Biblical opinions on a wide range of issues.

So what used to be called MacGregor Ministries with offerings in how to recognize and eliminate "faulty fads" in Christian churches has been re-created in the United States, and now operates under the name MM Outreach Media Ministries, according to spokeswoman Lorri MacGregor.

She said the ministry points out the differences between Christianity and various cult beliefs, but also with respect, and never as a proponent. She said the work always is in response to a question or issue.

"When a group such as Jehovah's Witnesses said of our doctrine we're worshipping a freakish three-headed God (the Trinity), we should be able to respond," she said. "We say, 'Here's the doctrine of the Trinity and here is where it is in the Scripture.'"

That, however, violates Canada's hate crimes laws, and the ministry was ordered to either make wholesale changes in its presentations, or shut down.

"There was nothing we could do that would please them," she said. "They wanted us every time we criticized something to say, 'So Christianity is equal to Buddhism, Islam, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses... Just decide for yourself.'"

"We cannot do that," she said of the work she and her husband, Keith, have spent their lives assembling.

Now comes confirmation from the Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family, one of the largest Christian publishing and broadcasting organizations in the nation, that it has been reviewing, and if necessary editing, its broadcasts to avoid complications with Canadian "hate crimes" laws.

Comments on the Charity Status of MacGregor Ministries

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

There have been so many comments lately on our charity status, both correct, incorrect, and just plain rumors and misunderstandings, that we want to set the record straight.  Thank you for your sharing and caring.

First, the good news--we are still here, continuing in ministry, serving our Lord and Savior as we have been called to do for the past 30 years. Jesus is Lord!

Now the bad news. The Canadian Government has made it impossible for us to continue as a Christian Charity and not compromise our faith. They have shut down some 2,500 charities already over the past year for various reasons.

The government no longer allows critiques of other faiths, even if done fairly and documented thoroughly. Freedom of speech guaranteed under our Charter in Canada does not extend to charities I was bluntly told.

We tried diligently to comply with government demands, transferring ownership of our website and magazine out of the Charity. We agreed to teach only Christian doctrine under the charity banner, with all critiques of other religions done under a separate corporation.  Surely this was enough!  It was not.

We now cannot present Christianity as better than any other religion. We  cannot  be "persuasive" when presenting Christianity. As you know, we have been true to our calling to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ for decades, and we have done this with integrity. We have obeyed the command of God to defend the faith.  After all, we simply respond to attacks on our Christian Faith by aberrant groups, which we carefully document and then respond to from a biblical perspective.  We do so in a kind and respectful way, but with uncompromising truth. Our goal is to lead people to freedom in Christ.  Praise God, thousands have been set free!  However, this is not "politically correct" in Canada.

Somehow all our loving concern has been labeled "hate", and our presentations, "uncharitable".  We have a growing pile of e-mails from ministries, Pastors, and ordinary folks who are outraged at the government's treatment of us. We have been requested to speak of our experiences on several talk shows already.

We have decided   that no more of the Lord's funds should go to the expensive legal profession, trying to maintain the charity status of MacGregor Ministries. Sadly, our pockets are not deep  enough to possibly "turn the tide" for the whole nation through the courts.

 When we finally realized  that we could not prevail, with great sadness,  we wrote to the Charities Division of Canada and asked to be revoked as a Charity. What does this mean? The one thing it means is that we can no longer receipt you, our supporters, with tax-deductible receipts for your gifts, after the revocation becomes effective.

We believe our supporters will still help us through our corporation, MM Outreach, even without tax receipts. We trust completely in God to continue our work. We ask for your prayers over this time of transition, and thank you all for your encouragement and support. You have been such a blessing over the years.

We must now raise funds so that we can purchase our own equipment to continue. We must also purchase products that we created as volunteers, and gifted to MacGregor Ministries. How ironic is that!

We must begin again from scratch as all ministry monies and assets left  after revocation are taxed 100% by the Canadian Government, or we must transfer our assets to a qualified donee Canadian charity approved of by the government. Either way, we begin again from zero, praising God as we continue to serve Him, no matter what.

So, good-bye MacGregor Ministries, the registered Charity, and  hello MM Outreach, a  Ministry Corporation! Please remember, no more cheques to MacGregor Ministries please, just to MM Outreach in both Canada and the USA. We appreciate your support as always, but especially so in this time of transition.

We continue to serve the Lord with no change in our dedication to Him!

The Restoration of the Holy Mormon Priesthood

Fact or Fiction?

Mormonism's claim to have the full and only authority to act in the name of God on Earth needs to be looked at, not only from the revelation of it from LDS scripture, but also from the Bible.

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

SECTION 13

Ordination of Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to the Aaronic Priesthood along the bank of the Susquehanna River, near Harmony, Pennsylvania, May 15, 1829. HC 1: 39–42. The ordination was done by the hands of an angel, who announced himself as John, the same that is called John the Baptist in the New Testament. The angel explained that he was acting under the direction of Peter, James, and John, the ancient apostles, who held the keys of the higher priesthood, which was called the Priesthood of Melchizedek. The promise was given to Joseph and Oliver that in due time the Priesthood of Melchizedek would be conferred upon them. See also Section 27: 7, 8, 12.  (Ed Note: This whole section was added in 1876…a bit after the 'fact'.)

            Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.

Later, in Chapter 27,  we read:

            8 Which John I have sent unto you, my servants, Joseph Smith, Jun., and Oliver Cowdery, to ordain you unto the first priesthood which you have received,

 that you might be called and ordained even as Aaron;

            9 And also Elijah, unto whom I have committed the keys of the power of turning the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to the fathers,

 that the whole earth may not be smitten with a curse;

            10 And also with Joseph and Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham, your fathers,

 by whom the promises remain;

            11 And also with Michael, or Adam, the father of all, the prince of all,

 the ancient of days;

            12 And also with Peter, and James, and John, whom I have sent unto you,

             by whom I have ordained you and confirmed you to be apostles, and especial witnesses of my name, and bear the keys of your ministry

and of the same things which I revealed unto them;

Joseph himself described the visitation of John The Baptist in the Pearl of Great Price, (Joseph Smith History) when he said:

Now, let's step away from what the LDS Scripture and Joseph  Smith has said and look at it a bit more carefully, from a Biblical perspective.

Joseph's claim that John the Baptist descended and restored the Levitical priesthood of Aaron can only lead one to believe that he had little or no knowledge of the Bible or Jewish tradition at the time.

John the Baptist never held the Levitical priesthood, and could not restore something he never had, even in Mormon theology.  John wore the skins of an animal and ate food that was considered unclean to the Levitical priesthood.  He functioned in the streets and by-ways, proclaiming Jesus Christ, calling people to repent and be baptized.  The priesthood functioned within the temple at the altar.  It doesn't match up.

If he were a member of the priesthood of his day, its leaders knew nothing of it.  When challenged by Christ regarding this very subject, they were ignorant of John's authority.

23 Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?

24 But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things:  25 The baptism of John - where was it from? From heaven or from men?"

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' 26 But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet." 27 So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Further, the Mormon priesthood that Joseph Smith claimed was a restoration does not deal with the key functions of the early Aaronic priesthood, the offering of gifts according to the law.

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. 4 For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, "See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain."   6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. Heb 8:3-6 NKJ

Jesus has given us a better Covenant, established upon better promises and has made the old to vanish away . Why would Jesus restore what He had come to put an end to?

Joseph Smith claimed that Peter, James and John came and restored the Melchizedek priesthood.  This declaration, like each before it, cannot meet the test of Scripture, or logic.

In Mormonism, no man can hold the Melchizedek priesthood without first holding the Aaronic priesthood.  Those great Apostles of the Lord most obviously were not operating as Levitical priests.  Everything they did within the record of the Word of God places them totally outside that dead priesthood.

The true Melchizedek priesthood was always a priesthood of only one!   It existed before the law was given (Genesis 14:18) and after the law was ended (Hebrews 7:11-17).  It sprang forth with the first offering of bread and wine. (Genesis 14: 18)  It reappeared only when the final offering of the broken body of Christ and His shed blood ended the penalty of the law as He became our sin offering by the sacrifice of Himself (Hebrews 9:12-14).

I met Ed at a book fair when I was a brand new Christian & I still believed that my native LDS faith was a higher truth. I left the conference very, very angry with him. Since then I've read several of his books & newsletters. He was the biggest catalyst in my gradual understanding of the lies, deceit and ultimate evil of the Mormon "church".

Now I just wish there was a way to reach my Mom, my brother & my best friend.

Thanks so much for your ministry. I have been a member of the LDS church for 51 years and now know it is false. I spend all of my free time reading everything I can get my hands on. I'm not sure where to go to church but I am going to find a place. Now the hard part to spread the word of God to my family and friends.

I was a Mormon for 21 years. I found the Lord Jesus Christ 10 years ago. I am married my wife side are Christian, however all my side of the family are still Mormon and talk about conflict. I have been doing extensive research on the LDS church because I have had "Elders" visiting my family on a weekly basis.  I used to just get into debates with Mormons and they never came back.  I prayed about how to handle them and God gave me the wisdom to listen but to ask them thought provoking questions that point toward them seeing the truth for themselves.  I have a burden for these people since they are deceived into thinking they serve God, when in fact they serve Satan.  Anything that can help me is appreciated.

I have been a member of the LDS Church since 1982 when I became a convert.  I saw the love and family atmosphere and had fallen right into the baptismal font (figuratively speaking of course).  I never once questioned the underlying beliefs of the religion and went happily and ignorantly along.  I became an endowed temple member in 1988.  The rituals and sealing to my husband seemed a little unorthodox, even strange but still I never questioned it.  Some of the questions I did ask my husband (a long standing convert), were answered with, "You'll find that out in the hereafter".  Sometimes he was downright upset with me for even asking.  He passed on in 2001.  By then we were divorced and I had moved out of state.  12 years later, I remarried a, non-Mormon.  Two years ago he was baptized into the church.  It was then (studying with him) that I began to question the Mormon faith.  As we studied together we both discovered that we truly had a lot of questions that needed answering.  Most of these  avoided  answer and we were referred back to the Book Of Mormon.

I received a calling to teach children the Book of Mormon in Primary and began to really question myself.  I believe that the Lord was convicting me for teaching the children a false religion.  I knew in my heart that I did not believe in Joseph Smith or the Book of Mormon and talked about this with a friend   She friend began to show me the teachings of the Bible, things I had never known.  I began attending her church and loved the feeling of the Holy Spirit flowing through me!  At this time, I have left the Mormon Church and am attending the Assembly of God.  My husband and I both are having our names removed from membership  of the LDS. Church.    I have almost finished your book, The God Makers.  I am aghast at all I have learned from reading it!   How could I have fallen so far so hard from the truth and why didn't I question it all sooner?!  Thank you for helping me understand the severity of my mistake.  I have recently ordered the video as well.

I am the pastor of a small local church and currently doing a teaching on Mormonism on Sunday evenings. I have received significant opposition from the LDS leadership. The Public Relationship Director of the Eastern Division for the LDS Church attempted to stop our advertising the teaching in our local paper "Florida Today". He actually lied and said that Mormons were not invited. Please pray as our church tries to educate our community about Mormon doctrine.

My wife and I have been actively confronting 2 Mormon "missionaries" for the last several months.  One of the things I need help with in this confrontation is the Biblical stance and verses for modern day prophets.  Also, do you have any book recommendations on the historical aspects of Mormonism (Nephites, Native Indian tribes, etc.) and how this is false?

My prayers for you and your ministry trying to reach the deceived Mormon population.  MY family and I have been ministering in Pocatello among them for thirteen years now, and I work for them as well as live among them.  My heart breaks as I am sure yours does for their plight.  I had the privilege to attend one of your meetings at Idaho State University quite a number of years ago.  I was just another face in the crowd, but I have in the battle with you since and will continue to do so.

I came across the article entitled THE CHARACTER OF GOD, i just want to say thank you, so very much for helping me understand God. I have been a Christian for over 20 years and all of these years I have not understood quite like I did after reading this article.

I thank God for your website and the truths you impart. I've never been a Mormon but my wife and adult children "were" involved for some time. In fact, my wife moved out here to Salt Lake City from back east approximately seven years ago so that she could be closer to what she believed was wonderful truth! I transferred out here three years after she moved so I could be back with my family again but I refused to get involved in any way whatsoever. I don't know exactly how everything came about but my family is no longer involved with LDS anymore... maybe my resistance had something to do with it... I don't know.

Now, in my later stage of life, I'm seeking God after being backslidden for many years. I can't get over how prevalent and strong LDS influence is here in Utah.
